Haier HNSE032 Compact Refrigerator Review

by GuestPoster on January 2, 2012

Haier is a very well known brand and they specialize in compact refrigerators that are ideal as dorm fridges, for small apartments, or just as an additional refrigeration unit.  The HNSE032 mini fridge is one of their best examples and averages a 75% consumer rating on most kitchen appliance websites.

The reasons for this being such a popular compact fridge are outlined in the following Haier HNSE032 review which has an overview of the pros and cons of this affordable refrigerator.

Can Hold 6 Cans of Soda in the Door

First impressions of the Haier HNSE032 are very good as when you open it up it immediately impresses with the wire frame set into the inner door.  This can hold up to 8 cans of soda which make it ideal for a student in a dorm, or even for a computer gamer who wants a small beverage fridge at close hand.

Slight Rattle on the Door When Opening

Underneath the wire frame in the door there’s also a shelf unit which will accommodate a large milk carton or two at any one time.  Admittedly the door can rattle a bit, especially if fully stocked with food and cans of drinks, but at a sub-$150 US Dollar price point you would expect some concessions on design quality – some of which is evident in the freezer design space.

3.2 Cubic Feet of Capacity & Internal Space

The Haier HNSE032 compact refrigerator comes with 3.2 cubic feet of capacity and once you look past the inner door you can see for yourself the way the Haier engineers have made best use of the small space.  There’s easily enough to room to stock enough weekly food for one person – which is why this really is best-suited for a person living alone or as a cheap dorm fridge for a student.

Freezer Section Might Ice & Frost Up

There are two shelves in total which complement the bottom tray and there’s even a small freezer unit in the top with adjustable temperature settings.  The freezer drawer will probably become iced up over a couple of months and is made from quite cheap plastic – but this negative point should be overlooked because you won’t get a mini-fridge this size for that price with any other manufacturer.

Very Cheap to Run & Affordable

In terms of energy-savings and bills, the Haier HNSE032 fridge will cost about $36 Dollars a year to run according to federal Energy Star rating tests.  Given that it only costs $150 Dollars to buy, you are looking at one of the most cost-effective and affordable compact refrigerators available on the market today.

To summarise this is a great bargain for someone on a small budget who does not need a large capacity free-standing refrigerator.  The design quality and build isn’t a patch on more exclusive and premium products, but the capacity, freezer, and price point more than make  up for that.

Smaller Haier Compact Fridge Option

If you want something a little bit smaller with a lower capacity then Haier do another compact fridge freezer called the HNSB02 which is 1.7 cubic feet.  It’s very small but would suit someone looking for a cheap and affordable dorm fridge with very basic functionality.  You can find out more about this model on this Haier HNSB02 Fridge review which includes links to the best prices online.
